With the advent of summer, it’s time to think about the abundance of beautiful color that can be yours with a little help from your friends. Of course, I’m speaking on the plethora of plants available that put on an extravaganza of color during the summer months.

Listed below are just a few of the many plants that put on a show for you.

                        Abelia                          Gardenia                   Roses                Perennials

Butterfly bush              Canna Lilly                Spirea                Annuals

                        Hosta                           Bottle Brush              Ajuga                 Grasses…

                        Hydrangea                  Crape Myrtle             Vitex

                        Daylilly                          Loropetalum            Hibiscus

This is just enough to whet your appetite. As you can see the list can be endless. Hopefully you have one or two of these summer beauties in your landscape.  If not, you really should make a trip to your favorite garden center.  Please remember that blooming plants need extra water and plenty of mulch at their feet to keep them cool.

Last but certainly not least, remember the rule of thumb is to prune right after flowering to insure that you do not cut off the next seasons buds.  Yes I realize that some of the above-mentioned plants bloom on new growth, while others set their buds on last seasons growth.  I’m just trying to keep things simple.  The KISS theory works every time it’s tried.

HAPPY GARDENING!
