JULY IS SHAKE`N`BAKE MONTH
Hope everyone is having a great summer. You know it’s hot as blazes out there! While we are all looking to cool off we can’t forget our shrubs and grass. This month I would like to list a few things for you to consider.
- Keep adequate mulch around the base of your plants.
- Prune spring flowering plants Now!
- When watering your lawn, apply at least ½ to ¾ of an inch of irrigation each time you water.
- If you have Bermuda, Zoysia or St. Augustine sod now’s the time to apply a round of fertilizer.
- For your vegetable garden make sure that your plant roots are mulched and you keep an even amount of moisture at the root zone.
- You may consider replacing some of your spring annuals with heat tolerant varieties.
These are just a few of the chores that can be accomplished during the month of July. Yeah it’s hot! So, try to work in the mornings or late afternoon. Please keep yourself hydrated. Next month we’ll have some really fun stuff to do.
Happy gardening,
Weekend gardener/ Mike Wilson
