Hey Folks! By now you are good and warm i.e. HOT. Just when you think you are done with the lawn and gardening chores for the summer I show up. Yeah, I’m a bad penny. You really need to think about that fall application of fertilizer for your lawn and shrubs. I can’t stress enough the importance of this program to ensure the health of you landscape throughout the upcoming winter months. Yeah, its hot but cold days will be here before you can say old man winter.
When feeding your grass and plants remember to give them a complete well-rounded fertilizer. This will ensure the healthy root system they will need coming out of dormancy for the following spring season. You may also want to consider extra potassium on your lawn as well.
August is also a great month to thin out your over crowded bulbs. If you have a lot of different bulbs I suggest taking a marker and writing the color of the flower on the bulb itself. Trust me there is no harm in doing so. Also, if you are going to put some of them up for them winter this will help you remember. One more thing, put some medicated baby powder on them this will keep any pesky fungus at bay.
Any annuals that you have planted around may be looking a little rough about now. Go ahead and prune them back and give them a good dose of water- soluble fertilizer. Believe me, they will love you for it. The above are just a few tips for the avid gardener for August. Just in case you were wondering what to do now. Yeah right!
