I for one am delighted for the month of April to finally be upon us, folks this past winter have been one for the record books.  With the onset of warm weather the beginning of April is an ideal time to think about planting your vegetable garden.  Hopefully, you have tested your soil, added your organic matter and ordered or purchased your seeds by now.  Ready, set, plant!

Is your lawn is like mine and few pesky weeds got through your pre-emergent herbicide campaign?  Don’t despair a good quality liquid herbicide will do the job very efficiently.  Just remember to follow the label directions closely.  While on the subject of lawn care it’s worth noting that it is still too early in the season for lawn fertilizer to be applied.  I usually make my first application of lawn food around the first of May. This allows the lawn to be completely green for the season with no more threat of frosty weather.

For the procrastinators among us it’s still not too late to fertilize your shrubbery.  I’m a huge fan of using slow release fertilizers with minor nutrients. This type of fertilizer will not only feed your plants with a complete diet, but also will take away the potential for burning your plants with a quick release fertilizer product.  While you are close up and personal with your plants why don’t you go ahead and give them a little haircut for the spring season.  I promise that they will love you for it.

Get out an enjoy these beautiful warm days, the hot dry weather is surely on it’s way.
