May is a beautiful month for all things that flower. We are now in the spring season with warm days and cool nights. This is perfect weather for perennials. With adequate rainfall and a little food your plants should be bold and beautiful. It’s important to keep them looking their best by pruning spent flowers as necessary. This will insure the most robust blooming season. Weather you have a sun or shade environment we have the best selection of perennials to enhance your home landscape.
While we are on the subject of flowers, I think it would be prudent to mention that you need to prune any spring flowering shrubbery after they have finished blooming. Also, be on the lookout for the little critters that like to eat on your plants. They are certainly out there and they are ravenous.
For all the patient folks out there, it’s time to fertilize your lawn. In previous articles I have mentioned various things that need to be accomplished for your turf grass. I know that you have followed all directions to the letter. Right? Well, if not do not despair, your lawn will forgive you. When applying your fertilizer be sure that your grass is dry and you water it in thoroughly after application. It’s important to use a completely balanced product. There are so many on the market that I won’t get into specific manufactures here. The main numbers are the one you see listed on the bag, nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium (NPK). If these three are present this will give your lawn the complete diet that is needed.
Get out there and enjoy yourself summer is coming fast!
