JULY GARDEN CALENDER
Folks is it hot or what? I hope that you are applying enough water to your plants, garden and lawns. It’s very easy to become complacent with irrigation needs if you have an automated system. With so much going on in our daily lives we sometimes forget to adjust our watering needs based on the season and temperature extremes. Remember, to always try to water during the morning hours of the day. This not only helps keep the moister in the soil longer, but also will go a long way in fighting fungal problems created by late afternoon and evening irrigation.
When mowing during the hot summer, lets remember to raise the mowing deck on our mowers. This will help shade the grass roots and require less irrigation to maintain.
For your spring flowering shrubs as soon as the blooms are spent prune as soon as possible, this will keep you from cutting off next years flowers.
For all the perennial lovers out there make sure that you are pinching off dead flower heads as they bloom, this will ensure continued flowering throughout the season. While on the subject of perennials, lets keep that fertilizer campaign going.
Until next time stay cool and by all means wear sunscreen.
